Crystal Gems

Disclosure Joyride

July 2, 2021 · Discuss on the Geek Therapy Forum

The crew is back for Season 2!
We discuss Full Disclosure and Joyride. Two episodes all about how Steven copes with the trauma of last season’s finale. We talk about the value of situational awareness and developing appropriate coping skills. Kat praises Greg for having a structured emotional regulation plan in place although ultimately it wasn’t fully well executed. Marc talks about Steven’s character growth as his sense of community and responsibility begins to blossom. Gian analyses the relationship Steven has with the Cool kids and how it reflects Steven’s relationship with the Crystal Gems.

Political Message

March 11, 2020 · Discuss on the Geek Therapy Forum

Greg and Steven start creating music about Lapis Lazuli when the wailing stone starts WAILING, which freaks everyone out. At first, Greg feels he shouldn’t get involved but Steven believes this is a problem he can solve. We all have that one person we want to impress for Greg it’s the Crystal Gems. Greg has messed up in the past and wants to help them now so that he can prove that he is not a constant screw up.

When is it better to tell the truth about something big that is happening versus lying to protect someone from being scared of the unknown. Steven sees the difference from both points of view in political power.

Roses Madness

November 23, 2019 · Discuss on the Geek Therapy Forum

Sometimes fear keeps up trapped keeps us unable to try new things it keeps us stuck in the past and unwilling to change. The Crystal Gem’s fear of Homeworld keeps them battling marbles on a consistent basis always on the defense. What happens when they finally listen to Steven?

Our perception of where we stand in someone else’s life is skewed by our own self-importance; Pearl feels that she knows all of Rose’s secrets and due to this in finding out that Rose kept secrets from her feels that she has lost part of her own identity. How can Steven help and what was this secret?

Space Guest

March 30, 2019 · Discuss on the Geek Therapy Forum

The group discusses the power of mind over matter and how negative self-talk can cause impotence, as evidenced in the episode of House Guest, and the importance of gaining trust and how easy it is to break that trust in people. Of course, as always, the group discusses attachment, as well as co-parenting in Greg and Pearl and the importance of communication in co-caregivers. Topic that can be looked up for further research, sex therapy.
Kat asked:
Is Steven’s superpower of empathy so strong because he is a crystal gem, or is it because he’s half human?

Ocean Mirror

March 21, 2019 · Discuss on the Geek Therapy Forum

This episode is all about our favorite water-bending gem, Lapis Lazuli. We discuss questions on lore, the relationship of the crystal gems with gem artifacts and trauma. We give free rein for Kat to unload all of her PTSD experience. Marc talks about the repeated trauma that corrupted gems experience. Gian discusses AI and mental health stigma along with its relationship with the prison system. We share our frustration over not being able to spoil Lapis facts to aid our discussion. Most of all, we geek out about how much we love Lapis and Steven’s progress with his sympathy powers.

An Indirect Monster Kiss

February 28, 2019 · Discuss on the Geek Therapy Forum

Charge up your empathy batteries, this episode is all about empathizing with Centipeetle’s trauma and Steven’s struggle to find his emotional core. Join us as we discuss Monster Buddies going in-depth into a discussion about trauma, retraumatization, how to identify and how to empower those who have gone through it. This is followed by An Indirect Kiss, an episode all about getting in touch with your feelings and shipping Connie + Steven.

Get ready for questions like:
Can gem Centipeetles have mental illnesses?
Did Steven and Connie really kiss?
Why is it important for everyone to be able to identify mental illness when it happens?

Most of all, laugh as Gian and Kat struggle and stumble to fulfill the role of synopsis person.
